A tea dance - with a twist!

News release from 12 May 2008

Cambridge Sustainable City invites you to a tea dance – with a twist! From 7pm to 11pm on Saturday 31st May, The Meadows Community Centre will host this event as part of the Cambridge Environment Festival. So what’s the twist?

You’ll be dancing the night away with the music powered by bicycle (thanks to volunteers from Magnificent Revolution (www.magnificentrevolution.wordpress.com).

Dance to your favourite tunes, played by organist Mary Cubley, without the use of mains electricity, so you can have a carbon-free cha-cha, or an environmentally friendly foxtrot!

Helen Witherington, Environment Publicity & Projects Officer said, "We know that tea dances are becoming more popular, so we wanted to include one in the Environment Festival programme, but weren’t sure how to make it relevant to the environment. Then Magnificent Revolution came to the rescue, and agreed to power the music for the event. It is just intended as a demonstration of the possible alternative power sources available to us, if we just apply a little imagination - and technical expertise!"

Tea dancers will receive a goody bag containing handy environment-related items including low energy light bulbs, cotton shopping bags and Fairtrade teabags.

Tickets cost £5 per person (price includes Fairtrade tea and coffee, and entry into a raffle to win environment-related prizes). To book your ticket, please call Eve Dziura on 01223 508140.
