City goes to the polls on 1 May 2008

Nominations closed today for the fourteen seats up for election in Cambridge, as well as the vacancy for the Romsey County Division.

At the close of nominations, there were sixty one candidates, with the Conservative, Green, Labour and Liberal Democrat Parties each contesting all fourteen seats; the UK Independence Party contesting two seats in Coleridge and East Chesterton wards; the Left List contesting the Romsey Ward; and English Democrats Party contesting the Arbury Ward; and an Independent candidate contesting the Castle Ward.

There are five candidates standing for the vacancy in the Romsey County Division.

The elections will be held on Thursday 1 May 2008.

There is still an opportunity for people to register to vote at these elections. The closing date to register is Wednesday 16 April.

Applications to vote by post at these elections can be made up to Wednesday 16 April and applications to vote by proxy – appointing someone to vote on your behalf – can be made by Wednesday 23 April.
