Cambridge City Council is set to receive over £1m in funding from the Government in recognition of its excellent work on delivering new homes and planning for future developments in the city.
In a funding round aimed at enabling local authorities faced with the considerable challenges of the growth agenda to boost planning resources and services, ministers announced provisional allocations for the Housing and Planning Delivery Grant (HPDG) on Wednesday 16 July.
The provisional award is more than double the amount received last year.
The HPDG recognises success in achieving testing government targets on both housing delivery and planning.
Councillor Sian Reid, executive councillor for climate change and growth, said:
"I am delighted with this substantial grant payment to Cambridge which will enable us to make further targeted improvements to our planning services.
"It is a public recognition of our excellent track record in delivering quality services to the people of Cambridge.
"I will be considering how to deploy the new funding to best effect over the next few months."
