Markets

Everything visitors need to know about the city centre's markets

Stalls on Market Square

Cambridge is a market city and stalls have been trading at the historic market square in the city centre since the middle ages.

General market

From Monday–Saturday, 10am–4pm, you will find stalls selling a wide range of goods including:

  • books, CDs and DVDs
  • clothes, jewellery and bags
  • fruit and vegetables, fresh fish and health foods
  • second hand bikes
  • garden plants
  • mobile phones and accessories

The market square also hosts a flourishing local food, arts and crafts market on Sundays (10am–4pm), selling organic produce from local farmers and work from some of the region's most talented artists, craftsmen, potters, sculptors and photographers.

Public transport and parking

Visit the county council website for information about buses and Park & Ride, or check our car parks map if you are driving into the city.

Market improvements

Cambridge City Council, market traders and Cambridge Past Present and Future (formerly Cambridge Preservation Society) are working together to improve the visual appearance of the market.

The market stall canopies were replaced in early 2011, and bedding plants have been added to the fountain area at the centre, making the seating area more attractive.

Other projects being investigated include an arts project to highlight and promote the diversity of stalls whilst concealing the black rubbish compactor.

If you have any thoughts on these improvement ideas please email citycentremanagement@cambridge.gov.uk or telephone 01223 457000.
