Consultation
Cambridge City Council, market traders and Cambridge Past Present and Future (formerly Cambridge Preservation Society) have been working together on ideas to improve the visual appearance of the city centre market.
The council has a modest amount of money to spend on these improvements and they will be relatively small in scale. However, they should make a real difference to the perception of the market as a place to visit and shop.
Projects being investigated include:
- new canopies for all stalls, maintaining the familiar striped design
- new LED lighting fixtures for all stalls, tailored to the individual needs of each stallholder - this will be trialled for one month from 13 September
- an arts project to highlight and promote the diverse stalls on the market whilst designed to conceal the black rubbish compactor
- making the fountain area in the centre of the market more attractive.
Tell us what you think of these ideas. Send your comments to us by emailing citycentremanagement@cambridge.gov.uk or telephone 01223 457000.
