This year's fireworks show will be held on Saturday 5 November, starting at 7.30pm at Midsummer Common.
The fireworks will be preceded by a spectacular fire performance between 7–7.20pm by Wildfire Productions. A bonfire will be lit immediately after the fireworks display.
The Thurston Family Fun Fair will be open from 6–10pm.
Please do not bring fireworks or sparklers.
Entry
Donations of at least £1 per person are encouraged.
In order to create such a superb free public display of this scale, in addition to support from the business community, contributions from the public are essential.
Please give generously to help keep this great event alive.
Viewing
In the interests of safety people are urged to view from the official viewing areas of Midsummer Common and Jesus Green only.
Viewing will not be possible from Elizabeth Way Bridge.
The Midsummer Common side of Elizabeth Way bridge will be closed to pedestrians for the duration of the display.
Viewing will not be possible from Limekiln Hill, which shall be closed to pedestrians.
Viewing is discouraged in front of the boathouses north of the river Cam, which is behind the fallout zone for the display.
Parking, transport and road closures
Parking
Car parking will be available at the Grafton, Park Street, Grand Arcade and Queen Anne Terrace car parks — see our car parks webpages for more information — and at Cambridge City FC on Milton Road.
Parking for disabled people only will be available at Jesus College; use the Victoria Avenue entrance and arrive prior to the road closures.
Transport
This display attracts approximately 25,000 people. Most people arrive immediately before and leave immediately after the display, at which time the common and surrounding roads do become very congested.
Please allow plenty of time for your journey and arrive early. Where possible, please walk, cycle or use public transport.
Additional buses will operate from all five Park & Ride sites. The last bus for the start of the display will leave Park & Ride sites at 6.45pm and the last return will be at 9pm.
The county council's Park & Ride map shows where buses will pick up after the display. Park & Ride enquiries can be made on 01223 845561 and other bus information is available from Stagecoach on 01223 423578.
Road closures
Victoria Avenue, Trafalgar Road, Trafalgar Street, Fair Street, New Square, Maids Causeway between Four Lamps Roundabout and just west of Brunswick Gardens, Jesus Lane and King’s Street between Four Lamps Roundabout and Manor Street, will be closed between 6.30—8.30pm, as crowds build up.
There will be no access for vehicles — including residents, blue badge holders or taxis — for the duration of the road closures.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained. Limekiln Road between Worts Causeway and Queen Edith’s Way will be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians between 6.45–8.15pm.
Access to the De Freville estate
Access to the De Freville estate will by via a one-way system between 6.30—8.30pm, in order to reduce traffic congestion experienced at previous fireworks displays.
The following roads will be one-way only:
- Aylestone Road — one-way westbound
- Hamilton Road — one-way westbound, and no entry from Chesterton Road
- Kimberley Road — one-way southbound
- Pretoria Road — one-way northbound

Safety
Do not bring fireworks or sparklers.
While every precaution will be taken to ensure the safety of spectators, stewards and St John Ambulance will be on site to deal with and record any accident or injury.
If you need any information or assistance ask one of our stewards.
The site headquarters and St John Ambulance are located together on the Victoria Avenue side of the common opposite the main firework arena.
For the duration of the display, additional St John Ambulance crew shall be positioned at either corner of the firework arena beside the river.
Information for disabled people
Car parking facilities for disabled people
Parking for disabled people will be available at Jesus College. Access is via Victoria Avenue entrance and exit will be onto Jesus Lane.
These spaces are limited and available to Blue Badge holders only.
Spaces must be occupied before the road closure comes into operation at 6.30pm, after which time it will not be possible to drive to the car park.
After road closures, or when these spaces have been filled, Grafton Centre East and Queen Anne Terrace car parks are recommended — see our car parks webpages for more information.

Wheelchair accessible toilets
The permanent toilets located in a block at the entrance to the common on Victoria Avenue are wheelchair accessible.
Additional temporary toilets, including a wheelchair accessible toilet are also provided and will be located near to the permanent toilet block.
A wheelchair accessible toilet will be located at the covered viewing area for disabled people.
Covered raised platform for disabled people
People may watch the display from their favourite or most convenient location. Spaces for 40 people including carers, are available on a first come first served basis, in a covered raised platform for disabled people.
This marquee is located to the left of the entrance to the common at Victoria Avenue/Four Lamps. Access is via a ramp. This platform will be stewarded and a wheelchair accessible toilet provided.
Uncovered designated viewing area for disabled people
An uncovered designated viewing area for disabled people is located on the grass close to the fireworks between the firework arena and the fairground.
The number of places is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Access is via temporary pathway from the tarmac path. Please note that this area of the common does become very congested. This area is also stewarded.
Hazards
After rain Midsummer Common is prone to becoming waterlogged and muddy. This makes it particularly difficult for wheelchair users off the paths.
River closure
The river Cam will be closed to all river traffic between 7–8pm between the Fort St George public house and Cutter Ferry footbridge.
