Ballet dance session

Chance to Dance 2012 is a free festival for children and adults of all ages and abilities who wish to try and participate in a variety of short taster dance workshops.

Performances and workshops will all be led by local dance professionals and enthusiasts.

The festival this year will take place on Sunday 20 May, 10am–4pm at Netherhall Sports Centre, Queen Edith’s Way, Cambridge. Doors will open at 9.45am.

Workshops on the day will include pre-school and beginners’ adult ballet, family salsa, ballroom, line and historical dance sessions, adult-only tango, flamenco, contemporary and ceroc sessions, and much more!

Car and cycle parking facilities are available on site. However, there is no refreshment provision, so please bring a packed lunch.

Online pre-registration is now closed.  You are welcome to download and bring on the day, your completed registration form.  Alternatively, registration for the event is available throughout the day, from 9.45am-4pm.

All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Specialist Sessions

Street dance/breaking workshops: Dance Offensive will be leading a “Move to the beat workshop”, suitable for anybody aged 11 years plus.  This is an Olympic inspired workshop, where you will move to the beat of the sounds of sport.  For more information visit Dance Offensive

Academy workshop for gifted and talented dancers: DanceEast will be leading this 1.5 hour workshop, which will be Contemporary dance based for 10-16 year olds. It will begin with a tutor lead warm up, followed by the participants learning a sequence. From this, they will be given creative tasks to help create their own pieces.  For more information, please visit DanceEast

Movement and Drawing workshop: An open and fun workshop for children and adults in which movement and drawing will be explored through dance and other physical activity.  The drawings will be shown at the Olympic inspired ‘Scribble Games’, part of this year’s Big Weekend.  All materials will be supplied.  For further information on workshops, please contact anji@changing-spaces.org

Thriller workshop: For anybody aged 5 years plus, come and learn Michael Jackson’s legendary choreography for a surprise performance in the centre of Cambridge over the Big Weekend (7th + 8th July).  Only those who turn up will be given the exact time and location.  No dance experience necessary.

DanceMoves will be running a fun and invigorating integrated and inclusive dance workshop  - welcoming people with special and complex needs of different abilities and ages, to come together and enjoy moving as a group.
Places limited to 15, inclusive of carers.  Minimum age 10 years.

Cultural Olympiad

The event is part of the Cultural Olympiad, which is intended to provide people with opportunities to take part in cultural events in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.
