Moving home

Who to remember to notify if you are moving in or to Cambridge

Couple in their new home

Moving house is both exciting and daunting. We have put together this simple guide of things to do before moving to make sure it is as stress-free as possible.

Where relevant we have provided links to further information on this and other websites.

You might also find the Directgov and Communities and Local Government websites useful.

It is best not to notify anybody until contracts have been exchanged — and don't forget to tell your friends and family.

Removals

It can help to make a thorough plan of your new house, so you can decide which of your possessions go where and what you need to buy for your new home.

Book your removals as soon as possible, and be aware that closer to the time and at peak times removals companies are usually more expensive.

If you are moving without the help of a removals company, you will need materials for moving. These include sturdy cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, and packing materials.

Who to notify

Your employer will need to know your new address, as will your children's school, college or university.

If you are new to the area you might need to find a new doctor and dentist.
