Various grant schemes are available to increase the energy efficiency of your home.
The Energy Saving Trust
The Energy Saving Trust is an impartial organisation set up to help people save energy and reduce carbon emissions. The Energy Saving Trust can provide free advice and support you to take action, they can also help you search for the best deals in grant assisted insulation.
Contact them on 0800 512 012 or visit them online at The Energy Saving Trust.
Feed-in tariffs
If you have installed, or are thinking about installing, a renewable technology which produces electricity, such as a solar electricity (PV) system, you may be able to get paid for the electricity it produces.
Feed-in tariffs (FIT) provide a guaranteed rate for each unit of electricity generated and exported. For more information see the Energy Saving Trust's feed-in tariffs page.
Renewable Heat Incentive
If you have a renewable or low carbon heat technology such as solar hot water heating or a heat pump then you may be eligible for the Government’s new Renewable Heat Incentive which was confirmed in October 2010.
For more information, see the Energy Saving Trust's renewable heat incentive page.
Warm Front
Warm Front is a government-funded initiative created to make homes warmer, healthier and more energy-efficient.
The scheme provides a package of insulation and heating improvements up to the value of £3,500 (or £6,000 where oil, low-carbon or renewable technologies are recommended).
To qualify you must either own your own home or rent it from a private landlord, and be in receipt of certain benefits.
Unfortunately the funding for this year has now been fully allocated due to high levels of demand for the scheme and as a result Warm Front will only accept new applications at a given date after 1 April 2011. For more information please telephone 0800 316 2814 or visit the Warm Front website.
Cambridge Home Aid
Cambridge Home Aid is a home improvement agency set up to assist people living in Cambridge who are elderly or vulnerable, who have disability needs, or who are on a low income.
Their aim is to help people repair, maintain or adapt their homes by providing practical or financial advice and support, to enable them to remain in their own homes in greater comfort and safety.
Grants include a one-off, non-secured and non-repayable Home Energy Grant of up to £1,000, available to owner-occupiers to introduce measures that will improve the energy efficiency of their home.
For more information please telephone 01223 457945 or visit our Home Aid pages.
Utility companies
