Cambridge Home Aid is a Home Improvement Agency set up to assist people living in Cambridge City who are elderly or vulnerable, who have disability needs, or who are on a low income.

Our aim is to help people repair, maintain or adapt their homes by providing practical or financial advice and support, to enable them to remain in their own homes in greater comfort and safety.

There are two main streams of funding available:

Disabled facilities grants

Disabled Facilities Grants are available to carry out adaptation works that will help a disabled person remain living independently in their own home.

You can read more information on funding to facilitate adaptations for a disabled person.

Home improvement grants and loans

Housing repair

Home Aid offers a range of grants and loans to owner-occupiers to help fund repair and improvement works.

If you have less than £20,000 in savings and have owned your property for more than three years, we may be able to help you.

We can even carry out surveys, find suitable contractors, and manage the work for you.

The main types of available funding are:

  • non-secured grants, including:
    • quick hit grants for emergency or very minor repairs of up to £1,000
    • home energy grants of up to £1,000
    • decorating grants of up to £500
  • repair grants of up to £5,000
  • repair loans of up to £20,000

All funding is provided interest free and with no repayments. Repair grants and loans are secured as a charge on your property.
