Your home should be a place of safety but many homes present hidden risks from accidents, fires and burglary. It is our objective to ensure that all residential accommodation is in a suitable condition to live in.
We work in partnership with NHS Cambridgeshire and Age Concern to operate the Safer Homes Scheme. This aims to make the homes of older people safer and more secure.
The scheme can carry out work including:
- Fitting lightbulbs
- Installing grab-rails, second banister rails and half-steps
- Securing mats and carpets
- Installation of smoke alarms and window locks
- Making trailing wires safe
Unfortunately the scheme cannot help with:
- Putting up clocks and pictures
- Repairing furniture, garden gates, sheds and fences
- Decorating or plastering rooms
- Fitting or repairing central heating
- Tiling large areas
The recommendations made by a Safer Homes Scheme representative will vary depending upon your personal circumstances.
For more information on the scheme please telephone 01223 506061 and staff will take your details and identify how the scheme can help you.
There is no charge for the service, although donations to Age Concern Cambridgeshire are gratefully received in recognition of the charity's contribution to the Safer Homes Scheme.
