Residents' Day

Our annual Residents’ Day is a celebration of the positive impacts that residents' contributions have had on the housing service.

Tenants, leaseholders, groups, boards and committees from all over the city meet to share all the good work that they have been doing as volunteers.

With food and refreshments, videos, exhibitions and workshops, it is a great opportunity to learn how to influence decisions.

You don't need any kind of previous experience - if you like meeting people, if you would like to help make a difference in your community, or if you would just like a fun day out learning new things with other residents, please come along.

The next Residents’ Day will take place in late summer 2010. Check back here for updates, or look out for information in Open Door magazine.

Residents’ Day Festival 2009

Held in October 2009, it was the biggest and most successful Residents’ Day to date. Over 100 people gathered to exchange and celebrate projects that inspired them most in 2009.

Residents’ Success Story Awards

Several projects by residents won awards for their contributions to the community. Just contact the Open Door office - contact details at the bottom of this page - if you know a local group or project that could be included for the Residents’ Success Story Awards in 2010.

New mixes

The Tenants’ Credit Union, Tenant Timebankers and Trumpington Residents’ Pavillion thought up a three-way partnership at the Residents' Day. Along with other shared benefits, it means the Credit Union and Timebank could deliver their services from the Trumpington Pavillion.

Lion dance

Diversity

The Chinese are one of the largest ethnic identities among Cambridge City Council tenants. They woke residents up at the start of the day with the roar of the drums for the Lion Dance.

Easy learning

Tenants and leaseholders from the city’s council estates helped run the workshops for residents. There was standing room only at all their workshops where:

  • six new Recycling Champions were signed up for the estates
  • tenants’ garden competition winners were awarded prizes by the Cambridge Federation
  • hours of wartime memories were booked in for recording at the Independent Living Service
  • guest residents from Norwich’s estates said, “it was inspirational”, while residents from South Cambridgeshire estates also made it clear how impressed they were with the event.
