Guide for landlords

We have a guide for owners and managers of rented accommodation giving important information

Tenancy agreement and keys

Owners and managers of rented accommodation play a vital role in providing housing for the residents of Cambridge.

Our aim is to work with landlords, tenants and other agencies to achieve safe, decent and affordable housing for all private rented sector tenants.

Our landlord and tenant information pack provides a comprehensive guide for use by landlords and tenants.

It addresses a number of issues, in particular the standards which are acceptable to the council, to ensure the health, safety and well-being of tenants of HMOs.

This provides a general overview of the financial and legal aspects of letting.

We hope that the pack will be useful to both novice and experienced landlords.

It also includes telephone numbers and addresses of useful contacts, draft tenancy agreements and other useful documents such as notices to quit.

In addition, owners who are thinking about renting out their home can access our 10-point guide, Helping to avoid the pitfalls of private renting.

Standards for college properties

We have recently agreed a set of amenity and safety standards for accommodation owned or managed by providers of further or higher education.

The purpose of this guidance document is to establish an agreed set of standards between the council and educational establishments, in order to minimise the level of intervention by the council.

The document sets out advisory standards, which are acceptable to the council, to ensure the health and safety and wellbeing of student occupiers.
