An incredible eight million disposable nappies are thrown away every day in Britain and some studies suggest that the plastics used in them may take up to 500 years to break down.
Fortunately there is an alternative that can be far better for the the environment - and cheaper too.
Modern washable nappies, or 'real nappies' as they are often known, help to reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfill.

Real nappy demonstrations
The number of different real nappies available can be daunting for a new parent - which type should you choose? How do you put them on? What is the difference between flat nappies and shaped nappies?
Cambridge City Council offers short demonstrations of how to use some common types of real nappies which are ideal to get you started. We can also provide general leaflets about real nappies for ante natal groups, baby groups etc. To find out more please contact Vicky Lacey on vicky.lacey@cambridge.gov.uk or 01223 458031.
