Black bins
Black bins should only be used for rubbish that cannot be recycled in Cambridge, as this rubbish goes straight to landfill.
This includes:
- dog and cat waste - must be wrapped in plastic bags
- all plastic packaging and lids - except plastic bottles which can go in your blue box
- empty paint cans
- sanitary items and nappies - must be wrapped in plastic bags
- Pyrex and Visionware
- broken glass - wrapped in paper and tied in a bag
- expanded polystyrene
White sacks
Residents that do not have a place to store a black bin on their premises are issued with white sacks for their rubbish.
Every six months three rolls of white sacks are sent to residents on this scheme. Each fortnight residents put their white sacks out for collection on the same day as their black box.
Items allowed in white sacks are the same as those for black bins.
Sacks should be stored on your property before collection and should be put out by 7am on the day of collection and not before 6pm the day before collection.
Only white sacks supplied by us will be collected.
