Services we do not offer

Unfortunately, we do not offer a service to treat:

  • wasps
  • bee swarms
  • fleas
  • ants
  • beetles
  • rabbits
  • squirrels
  • foxes

We are unable to recommend a particular contractor to treat these problems.

Certain species that may cause problems, such as bats, are protected by law. Advice in such cases should be sought from Natural England.

Insect pests

Most insects that are commonly found do not have a public health significance and may be safely left alone.

We can positively identify those few pests of public health significance that may affect residents, such as cockroaches, bed bugs, lice and pharaoh's ants.

We can sometimes identify other common insects if a sample is brought to our offices.

However if you require a more detailed identification this service can be provided locally by Insect Research & Development Ltd. A charge applies.

Payment

Our staff are not able to accept cash at the time of carrying out treatment.

The following methods of payment are currently the only ones which we can accept.

Cheque

A cheque supported by a banker's card, made payable to "Cambridge City Council".

This can be paid at the customer services centre, or it can be posted into the office, or it can be handed to the operator prior to the treatment being carried out.

Please note that if the customer, having indicated that they will pay by cheque at the time of treatment, is unable to provide the cheque and supporting card, the treatment will not be undertaken.

Cash

Cash must be paid at the Customer Services Centre before the treatment is undertaken.

Debit card

Debit card payment can be made by telephone. Please telephone 01223 457000 for this payment method.

What you can do

To avoid infestations you should:

  • not leave food waste lying around
  • avoid piles of refuse that could provide a home and food for rodents and insects
  • maintain your drainage system properly - repair broken pipes, covers and other related problems
  • report problems as soon as possible
