Do you ever wonder how hygienic your local restaurant is?
To see how our environmental health officers rate your favourite restaurant visit the Scores on the Doors website.
The inspection scores and ratings for all food premises inspected since 1 January 2006 will be accessible.
The general principle of Scores on the Doors is to give the public access to information they have a legal right to see and in an easy and convenient way.
We routinely inspect food businesses to ensure compliance with nationally set food hygiene regulations. Each inspection results in the food business being risk rated against these standards.
The key areas assessed are:
- Confidence in management - the ability of the food businesses managers to maintain a food safety system of work
- Food hygiene practices - cleaning standards, prevention of cross-contamination, temperature control etc
- Structural compliance - how good the structure and layout is in respect of food safety practice
The scores from this rating are converted to a star rating system ranging from 5 stars (excellent) to 0 stars (very poor).
The council believes that this scheme is beneficial because it:
- provides information to the public in an easy to access and understandable format
- encourages businesses to comply with food safety legislation and raise their standards
- promotes those businesses with high standards
- encourages transparency and consistency
