The Mayor of Cambridge for 2009-2010 is Councillor Russ McPherson.
Russ was first elected to the city council in May 2004 and he was elected Deputy Mayor in 2008-2009.
He is a member of the Standards Committee and is Labour spokesperson for the South Area Committee.
Russ has lived in Cherry Hinton with his wife Carole and their collie dogs for 26 years.
He works full time as the security manager for Cambridge Regional College, where he has worked for the past four years and whose support of his role as mayor has been vital.
He also serves as Chair of the Neighbourhood Watch Panel in Cherry Hinton.
Having been involved with Magpas for many years, and as a fully trained First Responder in Cherry Hinton, Russ has chosen the emergency medical charity as one of his charities for his mayoral year.
His other charity is the Red Balloon educational centres for bullied children, which have close ties with Cambridge Regional College.
Russ and Carole enjoy taking their caravan to the Highlands of Scotland and the Edinburgh Festival, where Russ plays the Highland pipes, small pipes, guitar and mandochello.
He enjoys reading and collecting good books, as well as purchasing and sampling the occasional glass of red wine or a very good malt whisky!
