Delivering services to Cambridge residents
 

Customer and Community Services delivers a wealth of services, both statutory and discretionary, to the residents of Cambridge and the surrounding area.

These include responsibility for the council's customer service centre, the management of the council's housing stock, the provision of additional affordable housing within the city, administration of council tax, housing benefits and business rates, the provision of community centres, community-based grants and services for young people and management of sports, and recreational and cultural services including the Corn Exchange.

Services

Arts and Recreation

Head of Arts and Recreation: Debbie Kaye

Arts and Recreation is responsible for sport, recreational and cultural services including the Corn Exchange and events on open spaces.

City Homes

Head of City Homes: Robert Hollingsworth

City Homes runs housing management including rent income management, the Independent Living Service including care and support in 13 sheltered housing schemes, and temporary housing and floating support services.

Community Development

Head of Community Development: Trevor Woollams

Community Development is responsible for grants for leisure and sustainability projects, design and management of community centres, neighbourhood community development, and the Children and Young People's Participation Service (Chypps).

Customer Service

Head of Customer Services: Jonathan James

The customer service centre is the first point of contact for the vast majority of phone, email and face-to-face enquiries for Cambridge citizens seeking the use of or information on city council services.

It aims to provide a high-quality seamless service for the customer and to enable service areas to focus on in-depth service delivery.

Housing Strategy

Head of Housing Strategy: Alan Carter

Housing Strategy's responsibilities include:

  • producing and monitoring the council's Housing Strategy document
  • working with housing associations and partners to build new affordable housing
  • providing the Home-Link service that offers housing advice and responds to homelessness
  • managing Home Aid, the council's home-improvement agency
  • managing the council's response to anti-social behaviour and our work with the Community Safety Partnership
  • managing the business services required for the above and City Homes

Revenue and Benefits

Head of Revenue and Benefits: John Frost

Revenue and Benefit Services is responsible for:

  • the administration of housing benefit and council tax benefit
  • the collection of local taxes including business rates
  • provision of support to the customer service centre
  • the detection and prevention of benefit fraud
