Reader surveys
Reader survey — spring 2011
Thank you to the 164 people who completed the survey in our last edition of Cambridge Matters.
In summary, the results revealed:
- 80% of respondents rated the magazine as good or excellent.
- 90% of respondents agreed that Cambridge Matters is a good way to find out about the council and how it spends money.
- 50% of respondents were aged 60 and above and many people told us that they do not have access to the internet.
- Nearly 95% of respondents agreed Cambridge Matters was easy to understand
- 87% agreed it includes interesting articles.
- 77% thought that four editions of Cambridge Matters per year is about right.
- Just over 70% thought it contained the right amount of advertising.
- More information about plans for new developments in Cambridge was requested by 46% of respondents.
- 40% would like to see more information about the services the council provides. We have removed some of the web survey responses from the results for this question. This is because we realised we were forcing people to choose a subject area before they could continue with the survey. We changed this and added a ‘none of the above’ option. The web responses we received after this change have been included in the results.
Reader survey — autumn 2010 (budget consultation)
In broad terms the results reflect previous surveys. Respondents placed greatest importance on our core services: collecting rubbish, recycling, cleaning the streets and maintaining our parks and open spaces. They also placed high importance on working with the police to tackle crime and anti social behaviour.
Respondents placed least importance on managing ticketed events and free events.
Respondents were split over some services. For example:
- 17% said CCTV was of high importance and 35% said CCTV was less important
- 28% said ‘Planning for new housing, including affordable housing and designing attractive new neighbourhoods’ was of high importance whilst 19% said it was less important
- 28% said ‘Providing and maintaining sports and leisure services such as swimming pools’ was of high importance whilst 16% said it was less important.
