Cold weather updates
When snow is forecast or has fallen, we check each of the sites we are responsible for every day and spread grit as required. Cambridgeshire County Council spreads grit on major roads, footpaths and cycle paths. Find out more on our snow and ice page.
Find out how to prevent the contents of your green bin freezing on the bin collections page.
Wednesday 8 February, 4.20pm
Bin collections
All blue and green bin collections are running as normal.
Black bin collections from Monday and Tuesday are outstanding at Brunswick Gardens, Stourbridge Grove, and Young Street, where road conditions are still bad.
Disruptions to collections on Monday and Tuesday also had a knock-on effect on Wednesday's collections, leading to outstanding collections around the Histon Road and Arbury Road areas.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused. If your bin was due for collection on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and has not been emptied yet, please place it out for collection on Thursday.
Car parks
The open-air areas of the Grafton East, Grand Arcade, Park Street and Queen Anne Terrace car parks remain closed.
The Grafton West car park and our pay-and-display car parks are open as normal.
Gritting
With further snow expected on Thursday afternoon we will check sites on our gritting list (see the snow and ice page) from 6am, as well as assisting the county council by gritting city-centre footpaths.
Gas works
Major gas works are being carried out in the city centre as part of a nationwide scheme to replace all metallic gas pipes over 30 years old.
Work will be carried out every Monday to Saturday, during normal working hours, with Saturday working being kept to a minimum. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of February 2012.
There is a risk that gas supplies may be interrupted intermittently for short periods of 6–8 hours. Engineers will talk to businesses giving as much notice as possible of interruption – usually five days.
Read more about the gas works on the Love Cambridge website or find out about road closures on the county council's website.
