Chlamydia is know as the silent infection. This is because:
- It is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI)
- 1 in 10 sexually active under 25 year olds will have chlamydia without having any signs or symptoms
- 70% of women and 50% of men who have chlamydia have no symptoms
- You can have chlamydia for weeks, months or even years without knowing it
- It is easily treated with antibiotics
- If left untreated chlamydia can lead to infertility in both men and women
Don't worry it's easily treated. We are supporting Cambridgeshire NHS' provision of a free, painless test and treatment for chlamydia which you can get through ordering online.
For women, there's no embarrassing examination by a nurse, you take the sample yourself. For men, there's no nasty painful swabs, you just provide a urine sample.
How the test works
You can take the chlamydia test yourself.
Each test kit contains free postal packaging so that the sample can be sent back to the lab. Then the results will be sent back to you within two weeks either by text, letter, email or phone.
If you have a positive result you'll be asked to attend a consultation with a health adviser who will give you antibiotics.
Testing and treatment is free for both you and your partner.
You can get a test sent directly to your home by ordering online.
