Reports

Strategic Assessment 2011

The Strategic Assessment 2011 [PDF, 6MB] was written to provide an accurate overview of the current issues facing Cambridge in respect of crime, disorder, antisocial behaviour, substance misuse and behaviour adversely effecting the environment.

The assessment is based on research and analysis of a wide range of information sources. Information has not been restricted to any one agency with material from a range of sources being incorporated into the overview.

The purpose of this assessment is to help drive the business of the partnership and make recommendations for the prioritisation of problems identified within it. The approach is to scan topics and provide an overview of those areas of particular concern, rather than cover every crime type and topic in considerable detail.

Recommendations are also made as to further information requirements. This assessment enabled the partnership to discuss and agree new priorities in light of research analysis.

Community Safety Plan 2011-14

A Community Safety Plan 2011-14 has been drawn up and covers the period 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2014. Working from the Strategic Assessment 2010 and public consultation, the new plan continues to address issues relating to crime and disorder in Cambridge. As with the previous plan, it will be revised every year to ensure the priorities detailed remain relevant.

The priorities in the Community Safety Plan 2011-14 focus on reducing:

  • alcohol-related violent crime in the city centre
  • repeat incidents of antisocial behaviour
  • repeat victims of domestic violence

In addition, for 2011-12, there will be a priority focussing on reducing re-offending, whilst the new Integrated Offender Management scheme in Cambridgeshire beds in.

For each of these priorities a lead officer has been appointed and they have identified objectives, targets and actions for each priority.

Crime and disorder reports

These reports, compiled by Cambridgeshire County Council's Research Group, provide further details on overall crime in Cambridge and a breakdown of recorded crime from the police.

Annual review

The annual review for 2011, below, gives an overview of what the partnership did the previous year and what it will be doing in the year ahead, to address crime and disorder in Cambridge.

Agencies

The partnership is made up of a range of different agencies. There are seven statutory responsible authorities and a number of equally important, non-statutory members. They are:

  • Cambridge City Council
  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Probation Trust
  • Cambridgeshire Constabulary
  • Cambridgeshire County Council
  • Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service
  • Cambridgeshire Police Authority
  • NHS Cambridgeshire
  • Cambridge Business Against Crime
  • Cambridge Council for Voluntary Service
  • Cambridge Magistrates
  • Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • Cambridgeshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team

The agencies that make up the partnership meet at a strategic level to agree issues such as funding plans, priorities and performance.
