View ancient charters and insignia

On Friday 9 September at 2pm and on Saturday 10 September also at 2pm, the council's sergeant-at-mace, Chris Cracknell, will be giving a talk about the civic insignia and charters as part of the Open Cambridge weekend.  This will take place in the council chamber at the Guildhall with an opportunity to view some of the ancient charters, the civic maces and mayoral chains of office.

Book a place through the Open Cambridge online booking system, found on the Open Cambridge website.

2010

Open Cambridge 2010 took place September 10-12 and was an exciting mix of free tours, talks and open access. Families, local residents and community groups explored the architecture, art collections and gardens that lie behind the university, college and city walls.

From the prison letters of acid bath murderer John George Haigh, to the latest laser technology at the £15 million Institute for Manufacturing, Open Cambridge weekend revealed the weird, wonderful and sometimes unexpected treasures found behind doors often closed to the public.

Cambridge City Council part-funded the initiative and the crematorium and Guildhall were both in the programme.
