Cambridge city centre management has evolved to create a new partnership in collaboration with a broad spectrum of stakeholders from across the city.
This step builds on the current informal city centre management partnership, which has been in operation since 1995, and which has to date been led by Cambridge City Council.
The new partnership will trade under the brand of Love Cambridge.
Its core function will be to develop a vision and action plan for the city centre through working in partnership with a diverse range of key stakeholders to ensure the city's ongoing accessibility, vitality, vibrancy, safety and sustainability.
Love Cambridge was officially launched on 1 April 2009 and takes the form of a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, managed by a board of directors drawn from the key stakeholders, including Cambridge City Council.

A proactive approach
This development is extremely timely given the current economic climate.
The forecasts that 2009 will bring the toughest trading conditions we have ever known appear to be bad news for town and city centres.
2009, and maybe 2010 and 2011, will be difficult for all town and city centres and Cambridge is not immune.
However, there will be winners as well and they will be those that have been proactive during the toughest stages.
The winners will be able to compete with the lure of the internet, out of town locations and with other centres for retail spending, investment, development, and the new concepts that history shows inevitably follow a major economic upheaval.
The new Love Cambridge partnership is exactly the vehicle that will take the lead in this proactive approach.
