Byron's Pool fish pass

Mott MacDonald acting on behalf of Cambridge City Council is seeking a competent contractor who can demonstrate experience of similar projects, to tender for the construction of a fish pass at Byron's Pool Local Nature Reserve.

Cambridge City Council wishes to enable fish to negotiate the existing weir on the river Cam at Byron's Pool by providing a fish pass consisting of a small concrete weir and natural looking bypass channel following the line of an existing ditch.

The project aims to improve the habitat for amphibians by deepening four existing amphibian pools and connecting the pools to the river Cam and to each other.

Swift tower at Pye Fen

Cambridge City Council is creating a new extension to Logan’s Meadow Local Nature Reserve (LNR), which is called Pye Fen.  We wish to commission a ‘swift tower’ to be located within the Pye Fen extension.

The ‘tower’ will provide a key point of interest in the new natural green space and will be visible from the Riverside cycle bridge. This is an exciting, creative opportunity for an artist who has relevant experience for a commission of this nature.

The following download provides further details of the commission and also details of how to receive an Invitation to Tender pack:

If you are interested in making a formal tender bid to undertake the commission, only a completed invitation to tender submitted by the deadline of 12pm on September 7 2010 can be considered as a bid for this commission.

Asbestos removal

Eastern Shires Purchasing Organisation (ESPO), acting on behalf of Cambridge City Council ('City') and Cambridgeshire County Council ('County'), are seeking to establish a framework for the removal of asbestos, based on three work streams:

  1. Licensed asbestos removal
  2. Non-licensed asbestos removal
  3. Collection and disposal of waste asbestos material removed

The three work streams are further divided across 'Reactive Requirements' and 'Planned (Project) Requirements' thus creating six lots.

It is anticipated that award will be made to a maximum of 54 contractors (nine per lot).

Access to the framework will be through a mixture of tariffs and rates and further competition as described in the pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ) document.

Many of the buildings owned by the two authorities (including schools, libraries, community buildings and offices) contain asbestos in one form or another.

The goals of the framework are to guarantee the standard of work provided by contractors and ensure that the authorities achieve value for money based mainly on a process of further competition (mini competition) among framework providers.

The scope of this framework does not include asbestos surveys.

A copy of the contract notice placed in the Official Journal of the European Union may be viewed at http://ted.europa.eu/udl?uri=TED:NOTICE:182031-2010:TEXT:EN:HTML&src=0.

For an application form, please email your details to Pola Walecka at ESPO, at p.walecka@espo.org.
