We approve contractors for our building, mechanical and electrical projects.
All contractors applying to be included on the approved lists must be register with Constructionline and have Contractor Health and Safety assessment scheme (CHAS) registration or be registered under a mutually approved CHAS scheme.
We use these services as a mechanism for ensuring the suitability of contractors requesting the opportunity to be considered for our projects.
Approved lists of contractors operate for both minor and major works. Works over this £500,000 value are subject to publicly advertised tender.
When applying, give details of your Constructionline registration number, state the maximum and minimum contract values for which you wish to be considered and indicate the categories of work that are covered by your Constructionline registration, together with details of your CHAS or mutually approved CHAS scheme registration.

Notification of inclusion on our list of approved contractors will be confirmed in writing, together with guidance notes setting out how we use Constructionline is used by the council when operating the list of approved contractors.
We hold the following lists of approved contractors.
For work up to £49,999 covering:
- general building works
- electrical
- plumbing, heating and gas
- insulation, cavity wall and roof insulations
- damp proofing
- painting
- roofing
- fencing
- other works (for example asbestos removal)
For work between £50,000 to £1,000,000 covering:
- building
- mechanical
- electrical
These cover the ranges of up to £9,999, £10,000 to £49,999, £50,000 to £250,000, £250,001 and £500,000,
Approved contractors are not used if the value of the contract exceeds the European procurement thresholds.
