How to pay your Council Tax

The different methods of paying for your Council Tax, and making sure you pay on time

Cash notes

Council Tax is an annual charge, usually paid in ten monthly instalments from April to January.

Pay by Direct Debit

If you pay by Direct Debit, the monthly payments are automatically paid to us from your bank account. Direct Debit is the most convenient way to pay your bill and the majority of people already choose to pay this way.

If you would like to pay this way, please download, complete and return the Direct Debit form.

Please continue to make payment by your current method until you receive a new bill showing details of the Direct Debit payments that will be requested from your bank.

Pay online

You can visit our online payments page to pay your monthly Council Tax bill securely online.

Pay by telephone

Pay over the phone by calling 01223 457 779.

You will need your Council Tax account number and your debit/credit card.

You will be given a confirmation number at the end of the transaction, so it may also be useful to have a pen and paper.

This telephone number is for payments only; enquiries cannot be taken on this line.

Pay in person

You can pay in person with cash, cheque, debit/credit card or a Council Tax payment card.

You can pay at the following places:

Pay via your own bank

If you wish to make payment via your own bank, either by making a lump sum payment or by setting up your own standing order you will need the following details:

HSBC plc
Sort code: 40-16-08
Bank account number: 01503057

You must make sure that the bank quotes your Council Tax account number when sending the payment. Please note that by using this method it can take up to six days for your payment to reach your Council Tax account. All payments must arrive at the council by the due date of payment.
