Properties left empty by prisoners are exempt from Council Tax (Class D).
A person detained in a prison, hospital or another place by order of a court can get a Council Tax discount from their usual residence.
However this discount does not cover those in prison for non-payment of fines or non-payment of Council Tax.
We will need the following information:
- Name of person
- Name and address of place of detention
- Date taken into custody
- Expected date of release
- Prison Service number (where known)
